Ask Your Users to Provide Cookie Consent

In order to function, SmarterU needs to collect and store certain cookies

Cookies are pieces of data that are stored on someone’s device when they access a website. This data can then be used to improve the efficiency of the site, streamline the user’s experience when they visit the site again, and track usage analytics, among other things.

You’ve probably been asked to accept or deny cookies many times before. While this messaging provides transparency, it is also necessary to meet certain compliance requirements.

For example, for a website to be GDPR compliant, it must provide information on what cookies it uses and allow users to freely consent to storing cookies on their device.

To display a cookie consent message in SmarterU, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your account settings.
  2. Open the Portals accordion.
  3. Edit the portal where you want the cookie consent message to appear.

  1. Enable the Require Cookie Consent setting.

By default, the following message will display.

SmarterU uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize your repeat visits and preferences.

Cookies are required to use SmarterU, and by clicking “Accept” you consent to SmarterU storing and using this data. Learn more about the cookies we use.

  1. To customize this message, edit the text in the Cookie Consent Message field.

Using the editor, you can also add some basic styling and links.

  1. To customize the message that appears when people do not accept cookies, edit the text in the Decline Consent Message field.
  2. Click Save.

Once cookie consent is turned on, users will need to accept cookies before accessing your SmarterU portal. Since SmarterU requires cookies to function, users who decline will not be able to log in.

Simple example of what a cookie consent message looks like to a learner. The message reads: SmarterU uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize your repeat visits and preferences. Cookies are required to use SmarterU, and by clicking "Accept" you consent to SmarterU storing and using this data. Learn more about the cookies we use. This message is followed by two buttons, one that says "Decline" and another that says "Accept".
