A Dog's Life

Zanjeer (also known as Ginger, because of his colouring) served as a detection dog with the Mumbai Police, in Maharashtra state of India.

He joined the Mumbai Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad in December 1992, where Zanjeer was known for his incredible ability to detect explosives and other weapons.

Zanjeer known best for his contribution to the 1993 Mumbai bombings. He helped recover 3,329 kilograms of the explosive RDX, 600 detonators, 249 hand grenades, and 6,406 rounds of live ammunition.

Every Dog Has Its Day

  • Zanjer helped avert three more bombs during the 1993 Mumbai (then known as Bombay) bombings
  • On 16 November 2000, Zanjeer passed away as a result of bone cancer; he was buried with full state honors
